Hello all,
Just found this site while searching for info on my newest family member, a 1971 Fiat Spider. Based on what I've seen so far, this looks like a place I'll visit often.
I'm not a great mechanic, but enjoy trying when I have time. And I know almost nothing about this car, except that I like the looks and feel of it so far, and I have more than a little work to do on it. My buddy bought it as a project and stored it in my shop for about a year while he tinkered, and she's now become mine. A major part of the cosmetic work has been completed, and she's running and driveable other than the electrical issues.
I know the engine in it isn't original, and not really sure exactly what it is at this point. As I said, she's running and seems reasonably solid for a 40-year-old, but I at least have some electrical issues to deal with right away. Turn signals and lights are intermittant, but otherwise things seem reasonably good. I installed a new flasher cotrol, so next step (I think) is simply tracing all the wiring and cleaning up grounds.
I also inherited 2 extra motors, 1 extra rear end & axle, 2 radiators, and an entire long-bed pickup full of additional parts and pieces. There will be things for sale at some point, but right now I don't even know what I have or what I need to complete my new baby.
Anyway, just saying hello for now. I will have many questions, and will thank you all in advance for any and all advice.
One question now --- Anyone know where I can find an owner's manual for this thing? There a several unlabeled buttons and controls, and it would be nice to understand what each control should be doing before I try to fix it. I have Chilton's & Hanes manuals, as well as a FIAT service manual covering it - but nothing really goes into dash and user controls.
Again, thanks in advance!
