Bosch style alternator question

Post by Fiat88 »

Looking to buy a new rebuilt alternator for my spider as I think the bearings in mine are so so. Just want to replace it with a stock style alternator as I'm happy with the way the my electrical system is working, thanks to adding headlight relays, brown wire fix, new ground connectors, etc.. Is this the bosch type which came with my '79 2000? Price doesn't look bad.

Sorry, this looks like the 55amp alternator that predates the 65amp bosch unit that the FI cars had :?

Wow, you'd consider buying an alternator from AZ?? I had so much of their stuff fail, I wonder if they actually rebuild them, or just paint them silver... buy hey, it has a lifetime warranty, so you can keep replacing it once a year for the rest of your life.
Sorry to be so negative, but their poor quality products and clueless employees drive me crazy.

I have one, but the price is just a bit less than my competitors.

There is nothing really special about the stock 65 amp alternator. Almost any local alternator/starter repair facility can repair you alternator at a reasonable price. I think something like $75. It"s good to support you local businesses beside the fact their quality is usually very good and they stand behind their work.

Vandor is right. The AZ alternators are crap. In one year I replaced the alternator in a Dodge Dart three times. By the third time I was only a couple blocks away from the AZ when the alternator failed and car died. Took Alternator out, they jumped started the car and on my way in 30 minutes. The store manager told me that my experience is not all that uncommon.
