Hi all,
Quick question.....
I'm changing the oil pan on my 2000fi, do I have to undo the engine mountings and jack the engine up a little to gain clearance or is there enough room not to bother?

Yes, the engine mounts have to be undone and the engine /tranny jacked up. Last year used the bell housing to jack the engine up. The tranny mount perhaps as well. The baffles in the pan do not allow for a simple removal, the oil pick up sits about 2cms from the bottom of the pan.

Once the engine is jacked up the pan usually will not come out. You have to undo the oil vapor tube (2 10mm bolts) and the oil pump (2 13mm bolts) too. It helps to have small hands!

I'm getting ready to change the oil pump. I looked in the service manual, and it
says to
1- Undo motor mounts
2- Jack up engine
3- Remove side bolts on crossmember.
4- Lower crossmember by loosening the vertical bolts, leaving 2 threads visible.
This s eems like it might give easier access.
As I'm replacing the crossmember anyway, I'm going to try the above and
see how it goes. If I don't have enough clearance, I can just drop the
crossmember completely.

understand that your bottom a-arms are connected to the crossmember. this means the crossmember will be spring loaded. If you are removing the crossmember, keep track of the number, size, and location of all the shims. these set your camber and caster. If you put a new member in, these will change.

I appreciate the comment. I've already got the control arms and springs off. I am amazed at what we have to do to get the pan off. That dent in mine is starting to look better and better all the time.

New sump fitted last night. No way you can get it without lifting engine AND lowering sub frame a little. Job done, no leaks. So, result!
