Couple Steering Column Problems

Post by 124Germ »

Well I had my steering column out of the car for a couple days while I troubleshot the ignition switch problem and now I have 2 new problems.

1. The headlight hi/low beam lever on the left has a crack on the plastic limit below the switch. I used some crazy glue, but would eventually like to fix it for good.

2. When I re-installed the steering column and reconnected the battery, the wiper sprayer runs continuously. It seems that the wiper lever is stuck in the forward position.

So my question is; are there replacement parts for each problem or am i required to replace the whole unit? Either way, does anyone know of a store that would carry these parts?

Thanks for your help.

You need a whole new switch. All the vendors carry them, including us. They are usually listed as fitting 73-82, but I had no trouble fitting one on my '71. I think I had to move one wire to get the wiper intermittent to work.

Thanks I will take a look. Can you tell me the level of difficulty in making this swap. I have some technical ability, but not an extensive amount.

Thanks

It's not hard, but you have to remove the steering wheel to get the switch off.
