Hi from Seattle area

Post by nwmike »

Long time Fiat owner, new to this site. I started with a '77 124 spider in 1978 that made me learn more about cars than I realized I should know! Now I have an '81 fuel injected spider 2000. All total there's been a Fiat Spider in my life for 34+ years and I still love these cars. To me there's not a better looking sports car on the road to this day. The body style is classic. It's a shame they weren't built better. Oh well, the things we put up with for love, whether it's cars or women! ...ps: I've been married since 1978 too! (and she's a keeper too!) -Mike near Seattle

Hi Al,

I live between Renton and Issaquah. I checked out your photos, your spider is a beauty. I like the exposed timing belt, having experienced bent valves after belt failures on the '77 I used to have, it really makes sense to be able to inspect it for wear frequently. Nice photo of your spider at Chinook Pass too!
My '81 has the same colors as yours, but it's not nearly in as good shape as yours. It's in bad need of a paint job and a couple small dent repairs, I just haven't gotten around to it yet, life has gotten in the way.
It's nice to have this site to share info with other spider owners, I've never had that luxury, I don't know why I never looked for it before! -Mike

Hi Mike,

My Spider is my third Fiat. I had a 69 coupe in the early 70's and a 72 coupe in the late 70's. It was a long time before I took the plunge again. I was fortunate to pick this one up in 2002 after it was restored. I drive about 2000 miles a year.

I don't know if you are aware but there is a Fiat club in the area, Fiat Enthusiasts NW.
http://www.fiatnorthwest.org/

They meet at the Amante Pizza in Renton on the first Wednesday of even number months. I haven't joined because I have been too busy but I will probably join at the end of summer when my latest project is done and I am fully retired.

See you around,

Al
