76 Spider 124- Just Joined!

Post by Tadsdad »

Hello,
Just bought a 76 Spider at auction near my house. Live in South GA. Here are some pics. Getting started on the restoration. Was in pretty decent shape, the owner died recently. I don't know where to start. A lot has been done recently; new muffler, some front suspension work, interior work, new top. First thing I notice is how rough (rich) it runs. Idles great cold but after 3-4 min gets real rough. Fumes will knock you down. I will attach pics if I can figure out hoe to do it. Any help is certainly appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

Nice! White is the best color :-) [mine is white too]

When it runs rich check to see if the choke's flap is fully open.

Thanks. Was thinking about the color scheme and I really like white. Black dash so that takes care of most of the interior. Black carpet and red seats I guess. I'm open for any ideas though.

The flap is wide open when its running. I do see some gas leaking our around the bottom of the carb. Not pouring, just looks wet underneath. In the pic of the carb I posted there are some things missing hoses. Not sure which need to be repaired or if it's OK.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

congrats on the new fiat! i did notice the water lines are not connected to the choke assy. that could be a reason the choke is not pulling off when warm, it appears open in the picture. but the engine vacuum could have done that when running. you car has a 75 carburator. it is the only year that style cable was used. nothing wrong with it, just an interesting fact.

I saw that but was not aware what those 2 studs were connected to. As you saw one is broken off and one is not connected. I will start there. Is this a part I can buy or is a new carb in order?

Thanks,

What are your thoughts with just replacing it with a EMPI 32/36 carb from Allison's Automotive? Price is right and no other surprises carb wise.

Actually it was used 1975 to early '77. I wish it was used only in '75, then more cars would have the bellcrank type linkage.
The later type is easier to deal with when converting to other cars.

You can take the primary throttle shaft out of the 32ADFA and use it in the new carb. That way you can keep your current throttle cable assembly. Worked when I converted to a 34ADF anyway.

johndemar,
Are you saying I can just buy the carb and not the 2 linkage kits?
Thanks,
