Waiting for my 79 to arrive!
Waiting for my 79 to arrive!
The timing was finally right and I purchased my first Spider. It is a 1979 with 55,000 miles. I have already spent a lot of time reading posts on here. What a great resource for information! Hopefully it will be delivered by end of next week.

What a great looking car! Same year and color scheme as mine. What part of the world are you in? Tried to tell from the photos, but can't guess...
Re: Waiting for my 79 to arrive!
The photos are from the craigslist ad in Sacramento area. I am in Utah and real eager to get the car out here but haven't got it lined up just yet. It is all basically stock - the lady I bought it from has had it since 5,000 miles. Have you done any modifications that you found useful?MrClancy wrote:What a great looking car! Super looking car! I envy you for that interior. Before modifications you want to make sure it is safe and reliable. Even though it is low mileage you should find out from her the exact miles and date of the last timing belt change. More than 30K miles or 6 yrs - it needs it now or you could be in a world of hurt ($$$). Most people with late 70s cars remove the smog stuff and sometimes replace the carbs.
Happy motoring. I've only "modified" mine with a headlight and starter relay to save the ignition switch I just replaced. All else has been maintenance, repair, and stock items.

Re: Waiting for my 79 to arrive!
I finally got my hands on the car but haven't got to drive it yet. The previous owner gave me a binder with great maint. records. The timing belt was done 2 years ago but only 500 miles ago - so the car clearly sat a lot the past few years. Is there any concern with the timing belt due to the car sitting or am I fairly safe for a while?2ndwind wrote:Super looking car! I envy you for that interior.
