New UK member

Post by dickykitch »

Hi everyone,

New user from the UK just signed up.

My story so far;

After I left university in 1994 I bought a 1977 CS1 which had been imported from the USA, and started restoring it. I stripped her down to a bare metal shell, performed a few body repairs and drilled the necessary holes for RHD conversion, then began repainting her. I finished painting the underside and engine bay, and most of the topside, installed new suspension gear and got her back as a rolling shell.

Then disaster struck. I got a job.

The new job was 160 miles away from my parents house where my Spider was garaged, and return trips grew increasingly less frequent. I got married, had children, and did my best to ignore the moans from my parents to MOVE THAT DAMN CAR!

Over Christmas 2012, having not touched her for the best part of 20 years, I decided enough was enough and I’d better try and finish what I started. So here I am, re-discovering the old girl again and planning on moving her to my own garage so I can carry on where I left off all those years ago. Although I bought her as a ‘classic’ car, I’ve owned her more than half her life!

I’m sure I’ll be searching this forum for answers to many questions over the next few months, but having waited this long I’m in no hurry and it will take as long as it takes.

Wish me luck!

Cheers
Richard

Hi there, welcome from the colonies. As you might have noticed if you have "lurked" here a bit, lots of great advice and sources for parts.
Over the years there have been several with Spiders from the rock, even on the north side of the "wall"
Having been to England several times, once out of the cities,no shortage of great roads leading to magnificent establishments for the "pub lunch" Family friends own the Barley Moe..Kirk Ireton. Family is from the south though.
Glad you have found the will to get the car sorted. FIAT is... Fixing It As Therapy.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome!

I'm in Chester, which is just south of Liverpool on the English side of the border with Wales. I'm hoping for some good rides out into the Welsh countryside - there are some fantastic scenic routes.

Welcome Richard.
Better luck second time around - you'll get hooked when you start driving it. If not before.
