Hi Gretings from Argentina (Fiat 1600 Sport)

Post by Kulbit »

Hi Guys... my name is Lucas, I´m from Argentina, and I own a Fiat 1600 Sport. This car, only manufactured here, is a small coupe, fitted with a 1608 TC. Here´s some pictures.

This car has been designed to replace Fiat 1500 coupe Vignale, because Fiat had to pay royalties to Vignale so Fiat solved to start with a indigenous coupe design.

I wil post some pics.

Thank you for yours post.

My car has been made in 1971, and this car was made from 1970 to 1973. Originally fiting a indigenous engine, a 1625 c.c. pushrod Fiat named 115C 2038, that is a "overbored" 115c, 1500 engine, the same that use Fiat 1500 Sedan.

On late 1969, Fiat Concord S.A.I.C. (Fiat Italia Spa. Argentinian sucursal name..) Put a post on one of our universities to hire young Mechanical engineers.

A young guy, resently diplomated as Mech. Engineer was hired. When He start to work at Fiat Factory, his boss tell him, " you have 4 months to design a new Fiat coupe for the Argentinian market, since we dont want to sell more Fiat 1500 coupe Vignale, because we need to improve our offer and because we dont want to pay any royaltie again..., here you have 2 mechanics technicians and 4 bodyworks technicians... do your job !"

Its seems that Aldo Periz, the young engineer that designed the Argentinian Fiat 1600 Sport uses some design concepts from the Fiat 850, Fiat 1500 and so. But He never realised about it.

From 1973 to 1978, the Fiat 1600 Sport switch to the 1608 TC B038 engine an with minor exterior changes... the coupe was renamed Fiat 125 Sport.

The 1608 TC manufactured here come with 110 HP. The cam is a 26/66 Intake 66/26 Exhaust. with around 9mm lift.
This car became the first DOHC Argentinian car and the only one for many years.
Here on Argentina, like on Europe we are commongly using small engines cars, thats comes from a 1.3 litres to a 2.0 litres.
So is great to the Fiat coupes owners have a car with 40 years or so doing well even today compared with new cars...

The car never come with F.I. and was manufactured (Sedan) till 1982, Named as Fiat 125 Mirafiori.
The car never come with dual carbs neither.

The carb is a Weber 34 DCHD. Twin barrel 34mm size, 27mm chokes, the 2nd pneumatic opened.
Its a little bit strange that this kind of car here always comes with a pneumatic actuated 2nd throat, but here WE DIDNT SEE ANY DUAL PLANE MANYFOLD.

Even more, usually Fiat coupes and Fiat 125 Sedan not know about dual plane manyfold existence.

Best Regards again !!
