I bought a drive shaft universal kit and its seems that the caps are larger then the old ones, once installed the joint seems to be hard to move. Anyone run into this problem?

Re: drive shaft unvirsel
Without seeing or measuring the cross part of joint just looking at the caps won't show much of use. Need to install caps on cross and then measure.
If you managed to get em installed they are likely the right size.
Ujoint usually need to be moved out the last few thousand of an inch after installation. Hard to describe my highly technical way of doing it, but it involves a hammer and smacking the driveline yoke.
And how hard is hard?? Should be smooth but slightly stiff is OK too.

I do the same thing, hit the yokes with a hammer (the part that hold the UJ) and that usually frees up the joint a lot.
If you were able to install them then they are not too big
