day/night mirror problem

I have 3 interior mirrors that all seem to suffer from the same malady. The
day/night flip tab has no tension to it. I took all the mirrors apart and one
still has the tab performing its function of tilting the entire mirror from
the base. From what i can tell, the day/night function comes from changing the
angle of the mirror to the front glass. It looks to me like that i need to
attach the mirror to the base. unfortunatey there are tabs on the back section
to locate the mirror that keeps it away from the base pivot. What am i missing
here.

What'sa behind you is of no importance!

Could be wrong and most likely am, but I thought the mirror had a spring in it. Have an extra one out in the garage, probably of the same quality you already have. But I stand by my original statement, my side mirrors are worthless and the rear view is obstructed by the roll bar and wind screen.

john, I understand the first rule of italian driving as elequently stated by Raul Julia. I do like the confidence of looking in the rear view mirror so i don't back into the wifey's car. I would never hear the end of it.

I gave up on the three mirrors I had and tossed them all. Biggest problem is that it is a bit harder to make sure there are no cops behind me

I think I'm having e same issue. After 30 some years, my 1980 mirror just "popped" when I went to the dim position on the little lever after some a**hole behind couldn't figure out how to dim his lights!

Let me know what you find.

Maybe now it's time to purchase one one in chrome that sits atop the dashboard like the older Ferrari's??

Happy 4th!

I have a new in the box Fiat mirror that has an interior light built into the bottom of it. It's really cool. Needs to be wired for power. The day night function works. It is brand new. $100.00
Also have a Fiat rear view mirror new part # 4224023 $25.00

Is the mirror with the light a coupe mirror. I have one and it is more rectangular than the spider mirror.

I believe either my 69 has a wire to the mirror or it was the 72

For those who havent seen one, there is a small courtesy light on the bottom of the mirror. All my 124 coupes had them. Much better place for the light than on the upper console.
