Hi all, I'm going to Install a new top on my 76 124 spider. I'm going to try to video it step by step and post it on youtube. I have been looking for a video of that for some time and can't find one, sooooo I think it's time to make one. wish me luck

Re: Convertible top Installation
Cheers to that, Ive been searching u-tube for anything related to a new top install and it's not there at all...
Just had a quote from my mechanic for around 5/6 hundred bucks , I have already prepped and repainted the frame so it's just a matter of putting it on.... Lots of old school diagrams available but not confident enough to go by, so please post your update ASAP.
Good luck

Re: Convertible top Installation
Do a search here. Someone posted a link not long ago to a detailed paper version. I just put one on a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty simple. Having two people is a plus, but it can be done by yourself. Just take your time.
No need to spend the money for the install unless you are all thumbs and have an aversion to a couple of simple tools.

Re: Convertible top Installation
Well was going to record me doing a top Installation today but the day did not start out good, first my friend that was going to video me could not make it. So I went ahead and did it with out him, some thing's went fast outher thing's not so fast. I've been trying to do this all spring and summer, but I could not find the right header bow. I got the right one I thought, but in 78 thay must have made a change in were the clip's are, I got every thing done and went to put the clip's on and thay dont line up! Soooooooo tomorow I am going to drill some new hole's in the header bow, I can tap at least one screw on each side and do the other with a self taping screw. I will start looking for the wright header bow agan and fix it when It come's, what a long day Im going to bed. Tomorow is another day

Well !!! I think I did not have enough ventlation yesterday, today every thing line's up. soooooo If you try to Install a top your self, make shure you have enough VENTLATION!!! The glue can get to you. I'll post some pic's as soon as I get it all done.
Re: Convertible top Installation
how did the install go? Also, quick question: where did you get a header bow replacement? I just took my top off of my 77 spider (have a stayfast fabric replacement on the way) and the top framework looks solid with one exception, the outside edges of the header bow have a little more rust than I'm comfortable with.
Those edges seem like they really need to be rigid, so I'm looking for a replacement header bow for a 77 with the squared edges.
thanks!

What glue did you use? I have glued the front of my top three times and when the sun heats it up the glue starts to let go.

Re: Convertible top Installation
Hi all, The top is done! and it look's very good. I got the header bow from some one on this form but I have got part's from Matthews Foreign car Part's in Birmingham Al. 35203 I do not have the phone number handy but you can get it on the net. The glue I used was 3m but It was the black and Im having the same prob, going to get the yellow and try it. I had a prob with rust on one end, was not very bad so I used some bondo on it after I got the rust off. It should last a long time, thank you for all your help.
