95 amp alternator in a 74

Post by aj81spider »

Starting to connect the newly installed engine and have reached the alternator. I upgraded with Mark's 95 amp alternator and have a question on hookup. The main stud is pretty clear, but I have two wires that connected to the old alternator. One went to the regulator and one went to the alternator indicator in the dash. The new alternator only has one other connection besides the stud. I'm pretty sure that goes to the light in the dash.

Is the regulator connection dropped with this alternator?

Any insight would be appreciated.

AJ, I did this mod on my car. You can scrap the regulator. If you do a search I think I might have posted this already. I have the diagrams and what I did (via a phone call to Marks shop) at home if you still dont have it in a couple of days.

you should have received an instruction sheet with a wiring diagram. The regulator is not used. The wire from the warning light is connected to the green/red wire on the alternator

Thanks - I either didn't get or (more likely) lost the wiring diagram.

So basically I can just leave the third wire hanging? Should I actually remove the regulator?

Mike - when you get back I'll take you up on that offer! Thanks.

It looks from the schematic like the regulator sends power to the fan relay and possibly the alternator indicator light. Am I reading the schematic wrong?

I found Seabeelt's alternator thread - very helpful thanks!

Now I understand the wiring - I was missing the two fuses connected together on my 74 wiring diagram.

Regulator coming out - hopefully everything will work!
