melted alternator

Post by papadopalas »

Sorry for posting this in the wrong place. I'm still learning.

I was removing some hanging electrical wires that used to go to the smog equipment that has been taken out and I traced a red wire to the alternator. Decided to take the alternator out to clean it up and this is what I found on the back. ImageI'm thinking this might be a problem.
It was working fine. putting out about 14 amps when running. So I'm not sure what to do besides obviously replacing the wiring and connectors (I hate electrical tape wrapped around wires) It looks like there was a lot of heat in the area and I'm wondering if I should just suck it up and buy the 95 amp alt. Or try to rebuild this one? Anyone else had an issue like this?
