wahoo, new headlamps and relay harness

Post by TStark »

Can't wait to install this, new relay harness and Hella E spec H4 headlamps.

Had a third relay added for the aux lights.

Done this to my jeep and a fire truck, the results are worth it.

Susquehanna motorsports made it to the dimensions requested. Relays fire from a male plug that goes into the existing headlamp socket.

I did this upgrade with a pair of relays from Autoricambi a couple weeks ago but keeping the standard sealed beams. What a difference! The new low beam is brighter than the old high beam! I had to flick the high beam switch right away to make sure I had the low beams wired into the low beam circuit.

Price wasn't too bad i think!
The leadlamps were 86/pr with the H4 bulbs
A custom High-Low harness is 90. Its all 12 GA and well put together. Nice 40A relays and sockets.
I gave him my custom dimensions, and the turnaround time was just a day or two it must have been in the mail
Asked him to leave the ceramic headlamp connector off so i can snake my wire through the spider's fender 1" hole, then snap the wires into the ceramic after i get it to through headlamp bucket.
Even made me a nice pinout drawing so i get it right. (the pinout for H4 is different than the sealed beams)
This harness was more, because adding the third channel for the aux lamps with separate fusing, with weatherproof 9006 connectors, think it was just under 50% more.

One can get the E-code or DOT, E-code has a harder transition between lit and dark, price is similar.

I would have it in and have something to say how it works tonight, but this weekend was tear out the rear end, and put in a replacement,
If its anything like the last two harnesses i did, should be similarly impressive like SpecialTool sez!

You guys doing this yourselves should remember to incorporate a fuse in the circuit that supplies the power (not just the signal) to the relay. Some aftermarket Spider headlamp relay designs use the OE fuse to protect both circuits. Remember that the relay alone does not provide circuit protection, and if you get a short in the "big wire" providing current from the battery onward to the relay/lamp, you'll have a fire unless this circuit is fused.

Well, I have a few night rides in and the results are remarkable. Those old-car dim lights are gone, everything is super-day-bright.
