Rear brake job and the 'while i'm in there' jobs

So took apart my rear brakes including removal of the brake shields, etc... I even got to the point where the axle (that threads into the diff) can be pulled out. So I'm thinking about cleaning, POR-15 and painting these pieces. Is there anything that I shouldn't paint? I'm doing a rebuild on the calipers so I'm thinking...
- brake shields
- caliper
- caliper holder (except where the brake pads need to slip)
- bracket/holder behind brake shield (that bolts axle in)

I just don't want to cause any rubbing/noise issues because of the POR-15/paint.

Also should I re-grease the axle when I put it back in? I assume on the diff end it's lubricated by the diff oil. I'm just wondering about the bearing near the brake area.

the axle bearing is a sealed bearing and requires no additional lube.the oil on the other side of the bearing is the same oil in the differential. there is an axle seal that you should replace while in there and a o ring.

dont paint where the parts bolt to each other (contact surface), on the axle retainer / caliper mount, other than that paint away

I ended up painting everything in the area including hub, wheel spacer, brake shields, caliper mounts, calipers, etc...

So I should sand down ALL points where metal surfaces sit against each other? This includes the wheel hub, wheel spacer, caliper brackets, etc? I guess I have trouble understanding why all the surfaces that contact each other can't have a thin coat of paint on them (ie. no POR-15). I hate to remove protective rust paint unless there is a safety reason.

I have painted all that you have with very little issues. the paint can create a tight issue putting the rotors on, but not a big deal as long as the rotor seats on the hub.

I've got the o-ring/axle seals now, weather looks warmer here, so I'm looking at putting my rear axles, brake shields and brake components back together. Do you guys recommend loclite (blue?) for the bolts in this area? Or just torque?
