A number of pix have shown various types of foam surrounding the underside of the dash, around the defroster outlets. What are folks using to fabricate (or purchase) this foam arrangement? All I have left is some black dust in a baggie from my dash disassembly....

working on the exact same thing today. For the seal of the heater box to the dash, I went with a heat duct seal product that handles like clay. It felt like this would give me a tighter seal with better vibration protection that is less vulnerable to heat than the foam rubber stuff. But for the part where the heater box flows up to the defroster openings, I'm thinking the foam stuff would be good for that?
The thing I'm looking for is what to wrap the core itself with before positioning it in the upper half of the box. I can see from a couple old ones that I have that they were wrapped with an apparently flimsy foam rubber type of weather seal. It seems like there should be something better to put into direct contact with the core itself.
Anybody have any answers on this part?

I used single side 1/4 x1 inch peel and stick adhesive foam from Home Depot, I found various sizes in the window/door insulation isle. The core had two bands of foam around it, I just cleaned the surface and applied the new foam, very simple.

ok, that helps. I was leaning in that direction. My concern is the heat- the last stuff that was in there was singed and blackened and not really doing anything as a result. I know it's been a lot of years to accumulate that kind of wear but it still seems there might be a better solution in 2014 than foam rubber to wrap that core in? (or maybe not)
hate to be a stickler, but I figure while I have the whole console and heater box apart and out, might as well take my time to find the best solutions possible.
