After finishing the rear brakes on the car I'm back on the front, rebuilding the calipers, etc... I was going to check the wheel bearing while I'm in the there. Both hubs have no play at all. One of the hubs turns perfectly fine. The other turns fine as well but is a bit stiffer to turn (I can still turn by hand no problem). No noise, no binding, but just a bit stiffer. Is it worth doing something about? I was going to pop off the end cap and take a look. Maybe repack with grease. Or should I take off the whole hub area and take things apart?
I guess even if everything is fine in there I'll have to replace the front wheel bearing hub washer and the spindle nut because I think you're not supposed to reuse these once you take them apart.

I've reused those plenty of times.rjkoop wrote:I guess even if everything is fine in there I'll have to replace the front wheel bearing hub washer and the spindle nut because I think you're not supposed to reuse these once you take them apart.

no need to replace the nut or washer, just adjust the tension

Nice to know I can reuse those pieces. I think I'm going to leave that hub/bearing for now. It's not that stiff and I'll redo it maybe next year when I rebuild the suspension and have everything apart.

Re: Stiff front wheel bearing
better do it now.
remove the cap, repack with new grease, not the graphite one, and reinstall everything. it really needs to turn without any effort.
