more questions from this newbie:

I am planning to purchase a set of seats- they are in far better shape than mine with no rips-- but they are a bit faded and marked up. Also they are tan, where my stock seats were black.

Has anyone tried dyeing/painting the stock seats black? I have heard that this works quite well but wanted to double check with people experienced with fiat seats in particular - and if any products in particular are recommended. I figure the dyeing will be an effective to clean up the faded and marked tan and get the color I want all in one easy move.

Yes, it works. SEM brand vinyl paint products are high quality.

I used SEM landau black to change from tan to black and it turned out great IMO.

great! did you use the rattle can or buy a quart and spray with a gun? and how much did you need?

I went through all of my invoices (FYI never do that, it's depressing ), but I could not find how much it took.

I used rattle cans putting on light coats as I went. If I had to guess I'd say it took 6 cans to cover the front seats and the back of the rear seat. I replaced the rear seat bottom with a platform for speakers.

Remember to clean the seats well and use a vinyl prep spray first and I think you will be happy with the results.

i used almost one rattle can to change the upper portion of the back seat from tan to black and it turned out great. you should also buy the prep product and prep the seats first.

Another SEM user here. Good stuff, easy to use, looks factory. I just did the rear seats, door panels, front seats with under a qt of the SEM. ~$80 or so. Sprayed it through my clearcoat gun. Laid down nice.
