Turn signal assembly

Post by 70spider »

Hello, I can't get my turn signals to work, I replaced the flasher and dremeled the tailight connections and still no turn signal. My next move is to have an automotive electrician take a look. I might have to replace the turn signal switch assembly but I can not find one for the 1970, however, I found a 1973 NOS at Midwest-Bayless so I was wonder if I can not locate a '70, can I somehow make the '73 work?

Update:
I just did a check. My wipers now work  , must be the new fuses, and my low and high beam switch works so what could be wrong with the turn signals? New flasher and bulbs (don't know if they are correct kind but they fit) could it be a ground?
If so where are they located? I am an idiot when it comes to reading an electrical diagram, dispite the fact I had to draft them in 8th grade :P , off course that was 35 years ago :( .
I will also tell you the bulbs in my '70 are not the same as the factory specs. Factory specs call for dual filament bulb however all the sockets are for a single filament bulb (they only have one contact) the mystery continues.
Well any advice would be great.

If you bought a flasher unit from the autoparts store and just matched up the blade pattern then it is wrong. Those units fit the plug, but each blade does not serve the same purpose. you can make it work by switching 2 of the 3 wires. dont remember which ones. I would recommend getting one that is truly a fiat part.

I got the flasher relay from AutoRicambi. I had to fit the wires with the new slip-on connector instead of the screw on type (absolutly the hardest job I ever did, being 6', 200lbs, and old is not ideal for working on the wireing). I put the blue wire on the "P" terminal and the violet wire to the "L" terminal per the wireing diagram. The third which in my car was green (not white/black as the wireing diagram indicates) to the "X" . The old flasher had no indication marks on which terminal was which. I'll try switcing them and see what happens.
Thanks

Thanks for the offer, but I bought a e-switch and flasher from a fellow forum member.
So I hope the problem will be solved next weekend.
