I am really excited to be picking up my first spider this Saturday. It is a 1981, Racing Green on tan roof and interior, was restored by Andy's Spiders in Toronto in 1995. It will need some attention because it has put on about 35,000 miles since then.
I am really excited as I always wanted a Spider when I first got my driver's license but I ended up with a 1978 Fiat X1/9 that I bought for $800 in 1990. It was my introduction to Fiat. I sold that X1/9 and changed through a few but never really got time to drive one very much as it always failed me somehow. But the sentimental attachment was born so I bought a 1987 Bertone X1/9 last year that I hope to simultaneously refine and enjoy.
I look forward to sharing that with you and learning from you too. (which I've already done as I've been searching the forum as much as I can)

Welcome to the Forum Charn. I can understand how you have developed an attachment to Fiats. In fact, I think everyone here can understand.
Looking forward to seeing pics.

Re: Saying Hello
Picked up the car today and dropped it at a local garage where I will begin the make over. I'll post some pics in the next few days.
I made a parts list and ordered from Allison, Gritracing, Mr. Fiat, and Vicks Auto tonight. I can't wait for all the boxes to start arriving.
I ordered a set of wheels on Friday as well. MRR FF5 in 15 x 8 in black.
I'll be pricing out paint work this week.

Re: Saying Hello
Welcome , Scrappydoo!
I have to ask: what were the old wheels' size, type, and condition? I'm keeping half an eye out for a new set.
Nice to finally have decent weather around here, isn't it?
Thanks and cheers,
Phaetn

Still a little brisk when I'm coaching my kid's soccer team outdoors but yes, the weather seems to have turned finally.phaetn wrote:Welcome , Scrappydoo!

The original wheels are the iron cross type.

Re: Saying Hello
Andy's Spiders is the equivalent counterpart of Roadster Salon in U.S. The cars are fully restored and resold at an exorbitant price. Would like to know how its long term durability has survived the test of time. What are your car's weak spots? Surface rust or rotted out floor boards? What do you know about how the previous owner's care for the car? Never seen winter as in garaged in a climate controlled space or stored outside under a tarp? All these factors will play a role of the quality of work performed at Andy's. Interested in seeing your photos.

Re: Saying Hello
Are they 14s? If so I might be interested -- given that your car is an '81 I can see them being bigger than 13s as stock...Scrappydoo wrote: The original wheels are the iron cross type.
Let me know if you can take some pics and if you're interested in selling them.
Cheers

Re: Saying Hello
Stock wheels are 13".
I mentioned earlier that I ordered parts from various vendors on April 26, 2014.
I received my parts from Allison without a hiccup and promptly.
I have received 75% of my order from Auto Ricambi and expect to have the balance very soon.
I received my order from Mr. Fiat earlier this week.
Convertible top guys sent me my new roof and I have a tracking number for the seat upholstery.
Vicksauto has neither sent my items nor contacted me. I called them yesterday and I hope I'll get some movement on that order soon.
Gritracing has not contacted me since I ordered but I dropped them an email so hopefully I'll get a response soon.
I was really hoping to have everything by now so I could try to organize a couple of days where I could simply attack the car.
I'll try to post up some before pics of the car this weekend.
