Idaho 78 Spider 1800, just bought 8 May

Post by Texsardo »

Hello to you all. I live in Post Falls, Idaho. Just bought Fiat 1978 Spider 1800. Runs good but as you all have experienced, electrical problems. Turn signals did not work, other lights not working. I cleaned grounds with Dremel brush, clips, etc. Now I know it is partly flasher unit probably. Unit gets burning hot and jiggling connection points make signals work. Mechanically works pretty good. Starts easy, runs well, of course NO 1st gear. Now it is a 4 speed but I have no problems with that. Wheels and tires are excellent. I need to bleed brakes soon, a little spongy. I just don't know what rating fluid to use. One site said DOT 5. Very good top with clear vinyl. A new one was thrown in with deal. Interior is very good. Need better seat belts, need radio, light, lighter to upper console. Body in great shape except where left front bumper shock needs replacing and a plate welded for upper bolt fitting to frame (rotted out around nut/frame. No visible rust but it has been painted in last 5 years, needs a new better paint job.
I have heard there is a Spider Club for Spokane, Wa and Coeur d alene, ID. SO WILL LOOK FOR THEM.
I love the car, my wife is Italian from. Sardinia and we lived there for 13 years after I retired from U.S.A.F.
I hope to find handy info on this forum and anyone close to my location can give me a shout out. CIAO.

Well welcome to the greatest place on Earth (Fiat wise)

I'm just up the street in Hayden, also have a 78 (3 years now), would love to meet up!

Get us some pictures, we all love pics!

Don't know of any Fiat clubs up here (there is an Italian car club in Spokane though)
There are 3 or 4 of us here in the panhandle that meet up a few times a year though, will let you know if anythings happening, definitely that time of the year again.

Hi Don
Yep, just got the fever. I'm 62 and a little worn out, full military career. So getting in and out of spaces is hard.
Would like to meet you and any others. Email texsardo@yahoo.com
LLOYD
By the way I normally use my Kindle so will need to go on laptop to download photos. Or can email them.

Thanks, as a newbie I don't want to use wrong fluids in the Spider. Also thanks for the shout outs. Glad to meet everyone.

just put the "copied" paste exactly in between the Image part, without typing img or anything else. Make sure the cursor doesn't move when you hit paste. And yes, it is impossible the first few tries. But once you get it, you get it, and it works. :D

Sorry, trying to learn photos. The red Spider is mine but it was shown under another's tag. Will keep trying as I have a lot of photos.
