Won't shut off

Post by Chazwars »

I've checked all the previous posts about the engine not shutting off after pulling the key but it seems I've tried all the suggestions and I'm still stuck.

I pulled all of the wires from behind the ignition switch while it was still running and the engine never shut off. The ignition coil has no power when the key is removed. The starter is brand new from autoricambi. The ignition switch comes off a 79 an I am operating a 72.

Heck, most people can't get em to run!! You should be thrilled.

Sorry

If it's running the coil HAS to have volt.

No worries. I said the same thing. I loved the post that said to activate the 4way flasher to shut off the engine. But yes, when running the coil has volt. When I shut it down there is no volt (a good thing).

Well, I figured out that I had the gray and yellow wires on the alternator. Once this was corrected everything shut down.

Now on to the next gremlin. I have upgraded the alternator with an internal volt regulator but every time I connect both the power from the battery and the wire going to the ignition switch, a huge spark pops. The cables are not touching the alternator housing and I am using multiple insulation spacers. So it looks like I am heading back to the ignition switch.

I am curious about using a 79 switch on a 72 wiring grid. The posts are much different.
