Alternator location

I am replacing the 1800 engine in my 1976 Spider with a 2000. The alternator was originally on the boss at the base of the 1800 block on the passenger side. On the 2000 it appears to go on the driver side above the oil filter but with my car this space is partially occupied by the fuel regulator.

I would prefer to keep it on the passenger side for three reasons: the wiring is already in place, I have the correct belt and the space is better. There are two studs sticking out of the block on the passenger side, are these for a mounting bracket such as the one I found on Autoricambi (SKU ELO-427-Z) for the 1968-77 years to switch to the newer engine? The supporting info says that this is correct, but I would hate to get it here and find it wrong. I also read on this forum that there are issues with alignment of the belt staying with the passenger side alternator, is this going to be a problem?

I would call AR to discuss. Some of the brackets are for alt upgrades.

The only problem with mounting on the exhaust side is that the alternator lines up with the backmost pulley groove, which is much smaller in diameter so it will turn the alternator at about half the speed. Oh, and your belt will likely be too long
