New here lurking around doing a lot of reading. I was out in Vancouver a month ago traveling from Whistler to Lillooet on hwy 99, site seeing, the same day there was a road rally going on, all these vintage sports car tearing up the road, the one that caught my eye was a Fiat Spider, actually they all caught my eye, but I liked the Spider. I've been into 60's and 70's Buick's, I'm getting tired of putting $100 of gas in them every time we take one out, I think it's time for a change

It will be a completely different driving experience than your Buick. If you like feeling the road, hearing the engine and fiddling with stuff with your hands and feet, you will love these cars.

Hi there.
Yes "The Duffy" is a great road for one of these cars. Other would be the New Denver to Kaslo road... Steep hill though coming down to Lillooet.
Before heading home, there are/were a couple of great looking spiders in the lower mainland for sale you might have been tempted to take back with you...
For a $100.00 in fuel, I'd be looking at around 650-700 kms in the spider. ($1.45/L)
Enjoy the quest.

You betcha it's better than the Buicks. I was a die hard Mustang, El Camino fan. Being 62 it was time. Problem was the cost and maintenance costs on the American Greats. My wife being Italian spotted this ad for a 1978 Spider in Craigslist and I bought it for $2200. Great shape and runs like a well tuned top. I have only had it about a month but I can't keep my hands off it. Sounds perverted, I know. But I am constantly looking for items to replace on it. Having brakes done right now. I have even had a compliment from a 65 Mustang owner that thought my car was cool. Get one and enjoy the true European Sports car feeling as you tool around town. :D

Here's the lot! The morphed white car I traded for a bunch of Buick parts. Has webber carbs on it and a header, new brakes, tires, suspension parts, new seats, and a good dash pad, I don't know what the original intention was. It's very rust under the fibre glass and bondo. The red car is a rust free California car, seats, carpet, roof, vacuum lines are all original, has the original trunk boards, and cover, come with a new roof. Going to need a new muffler, maybe ball joints or tie rods, new timing belt, just needs gone over front to back.

You don't mess around, do you! :-) White is a curious thing, but looks like it has some useful parts on it at the least.

Thanks for the welcome
Under that white shell of plastic is a full body, it will be interesting to find how bad it is . I know it needs a passenger side floor, the rear quarters have been tarred up in the trunk, the front signal lights in the steel fenders have rot around them, might make a good shell for using on the track? It goes like a scared cat. Plans for the red one are to go over it and have it on the road by the end of the month.

If the white one is that quick, then I'd take a look at what cams it's running as well (given all the other updates).

Yes, look at the whole engine build and car set up, people were wanting to buy just the carbs and intake manifold off it, but didn't want to buy the whole car. :)

Nose! Cow catcher :D

Image

It begins!
Exhaust system clamp, reposition and tighten to bring it to the correct location.
New tie rod ends, new centre link.
Windshield washer bottle and washer motor.
Tear down the idler arm, no one put oil in the lower half, works good after you get it lubricated, now it doesn't squeal when turn the steering wheel.
Mount the side view mirror.
Attach the drivers side vent window latch.
Fill the rear end, change oil in tranny, change oil and filter in motor.
A few things left to do.
Timing belt, rad hoses, rad fan switch.
Hopefully get it certified next weekend
