1972 Spider wont fire

Post by 72Spizzider »

I bought this baby for 600; guy told me the engine was probably seized. He said it ran before it was parked 7 years ago. I took it to my shop took the top of the engine off and it was, I got it loose and replaced everything but it won't fire. It turns over as though it wants to but to no avail. I am not getting fire to the ignition coil. I am not a mechanic but I am intuitive and have read and read and read enough to get to that point. What I want to know is if there is a fuse blown FOR the ignition coil could that be the culprit. also, I didn't put the altenator back on before trying the start. Could that be a part of the problem as well... HELP!!!

Pretty sure the wire to the ignition switch that powers the coil when you are in run position comes from the alternator post so if it is not hooked up along with the hot post to the alternator (from the battery via the starter) coil won't have power and sure enough car won't start.

put a meter on the + side of the coil to see if you have 12 volts. The negative side goes through the points and condenser. If the condenser is bad, it wont start, and they can be bad right out of the box.

Ok got everything back together even the altenator but she still won't fire... turns like a door knob but nothing. I was wondering, should I change the points...
