As I wrote:
Test fit the new back up light switch yesterday (need to go buy a 22mm socket to finish the job). With the switch hooked up to the two power leads, and plunger not depressed, both back up lights were on. Press in the plunger, lights out. While I'm glad that this means I have power and ground intact (Yay!), I'm wondering if this is the design of the switch? Out/on, in/off?
So last night:
I headed out to work on the back up light switch. Wrestling the old one was a bit of a chore: lots of WD40, and given the tight fit of the exhaust system, required an unusual tool combo (long flex head 3/8 ratchet into 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter driving a 1/2 in 22mm deep socket). It all eventually went in, and when tested, worked perfectly: gear lever in reverse, nice bright white lights in back! If there's a next time, I'm doing this with the tranny or the exhaust out of the car (hear that, Steve and Alan??? ).
Still vexed by the left taillight socket, so decided to chase the turn signal issue instead. Loosened the dash, and crawled under to ensure no pinches, disconnects, etc. Everything was tight and in its place. Doublechecked the wiring on the hazard switch and flasher can. On a whim, tossed an led bulb into the courtesy light, and was not surprised to see no light. Went back to the wiring diagram and fuse chart, to begin tracking the hazard switch. Noticed hazard and courtesy were on Fuse A, so I checked Fuse A to make sure it was still good. It was absent, actually.. . So, new fuse, courtesy light comes on (LED definitely a good idea here), and when I turned on the ignition, I have turn signals!! But no hazards. All the hazard wiring is right out there in front of me, so I'm less worried about that chore.
Did a test fit of the lower and mid consoles last night. Lower will need some trimming on the insides to fit all the way down on the tranny tunnel, but that was expected. Steve, the radio bracket will work great! Just the right distance/clearance from the front radio plate to the bracket for the radio I plan to use!
Nice to have progress; especially with systems I'll need to actually take the car on the road (brake lights, turn signals, etc). Time to call the top installer and check his availability in the next few weeks. Bonus recommendation: if your area is enjoying a bumper crop of mosquitoes this year, try one of those OFF! battery operated fan gizmos. I use it golfing, and it works, so I took it under/in the car with me last night. No bites!
