Hi, new to car and forum. I just purchased a 1981 Fiat 2000. previous owners must have had problems with ignition switch because in order to start car, I have to turn key (I hear clicking and stuff under hood) and press a separate button that they added to energize the starter. I saw a detailed description with photos of how to repair switch. My question is this: When one turns the key to start position, is it spring loaded to return to car on (but not starter on position? Presently, I feel no spring return.
If ignition switch very bad, I saw a replacement that does not include a door chime. This is not important as previous owners have disabled door chime, seat belt stuff. Can I easily mount this switch? Also, present old switch does not seem to have an "accessory" position (electrical on.... for radio, horn; but no firing of fuel injectors, plugs). Does new switch have this?
Ignition switch spring?

Re: Ignition switch spring?
Fiats do not have an accessory position, neither with the original or replacement switch.
Usually it is the electrical part of the switch that goes bad, so you might be able to find an original switch with a bad electrical part that you can get cheap and make one good switch out of the two.
Actually I just looked in my garage and I do have such a switch, it even has the original key with the black plastic head. Yours for $17 including shipping in the US if you want it.

Vandor, thanks for offer. I assume switch does not function at that price. Do you know what is wrong with it? Also, is ignition switch start position suppose to be spring loaded?

Re: Ignition switch spring?
Ooops, scratch what I said. I just checked another switch that had the electrical part removed, and it seems that the spring to turn the key back is in the electrical part. So my switch would not help you, sorry.

Hey, it's the thought that counts!
Does anyone know if switches sold on eBay mount easily and work?
Look at this on eBay:
