early alternator question

Im trying to clean up grounds and contacts and i have a question about the alternator. there are 2 wires to it, one has a female spade type connector that goes into a larger white connector where the spade resides. The other goes to a spade but it does not have a large connector. My question(s) are how do i clean these contacts and does the larger white connector pull out? its pretty loose feeling but im afraid to pull it and break something.
