Ignition system problems

Post by Manso »

Hi all

I own a 71 BS1, and after rebuild may engine a year ago, ignition points contact, and ignition coil started. Im now at my 15 ignition point contact set and 3 or four ignition coil replaced, also the key wiring because burn out.
The coil gets very very hot sometimes, and engine doesn't run off course as mislake electric contact. Other times burn the ignition contact, a couple times literally, also with fire on it.
My question is if any one can help;

Connection as original factory wiring scheme, ignition key to positive coil point, and fitting dizzy wire to some positive (b) point, its bun the wiring and contact point device.
Connecting ignition key to positive, B point,and dizzy wire ate negative point it runs, but, sometimes 150 miles, other just one mile and now, 1 mille or 10 minutes only quite often.

With original coil with ballast,(Marelli BZR 202A) bolt points, D, and positive have electric power, is this normal???

Now, brown tacho wire does work the tacho when connected to the "D" position, only direct at negative coil point.

As told, following the correct wiring scheme, positive to positive, and tacho at negative, burns the wiring and the contact set point.

Does this happened to anyone else!?

Can anyone let me know what this can do!?

I appreciate any help.

Regards

Paulo

Do yourself a favor an convert to the Pertronix electrical ignition, you will not have to worry about the points burning again.

This can't be right. The points ground the coil, so the wire from the points cannot be connected to the same terminal that +12V from the key are connected to. Yes, that will burn the wiring if the points are closed when the engine stops.

With the Pertronix there is no wiring to the points, so it will not be a problem. Just run +12V to the coil positive, connect the 2 wires to the coil from the Pertronix and it will run.
