so cleaning my recently aquired 1977 124 ( seems that electrically it is more like a 1976), and i found thin under the passenger seat. the other end goes in to the trunk and doesnt attach to anything.
no clue what it is . Thermocouple ? Italian Antenna lead ?? fiber optic ?? power cable ?
the nut in the picture is about the size of a dime.
first right answer gets a free beer when i see them !

Looks like a circa 70's antenna lead, to me. Under the seat, and leading to the trunk? Yeah, antenna. Looks like what I took out of the 72 when I junked the old aftermarket deck.
Look under the fender tops in the trunk see if you can see where an antenna hole was welded closed.

CB Radio antenna lead for a clip on or magnetic antenna that was clipped onto the trunk lid with an edge clamp or magnet base.

I think diesel wins the beer !
Actually found another similar cable in the trunk. Clearly co-ax of some type. So I guess the PO had two CB antennas

Snowdrifter. I had a Cobra 21 I used in the car and used Johnson SSB units in the plow trucks. For antennas I had a Moonraker at the base, Avanti clip on trunk mount for the car and twin truckers on the plow trucks. Lost the Cobra 21 in a motor home fire 5 years ago which for a straight CB was probably the best ever made.Nanonevol wrote:CB radios! Oh the good old days! What was your "handle"

Re: Today's "wha t is this" challenge !!!!!!
Our 72 124 Coupe was the last vehicle which had the CB actively used. Being less financially flush, used Radio Shack's, and had an SSB unit for my last, with generic mag mount antennas. Used them to set a personal best Sheboygan-Ft Knox, KY transit time of 7hrs 40 min. In the late 70's.
Handle was "Stone Horse", taken from a trim little Edey & Duff 24ft cutter which I've never quite quit fantasizing about....

Here's the 1975 Mirifiori with antenna visible on trunk lid. CB and handle were transferred from previous 128 sedan. "shoebox" was descriptive and memorable.
