Correct flywheel step height?

Post by kmoses »

When my flywheel was resurfaced, the shop put a .025" step on the flywheel. I have a '79 spider with a OEM Valeo clutch kit from AR for '71 on cars. The clutch is adjusted correctly but it just does not disengage properly, it has to be pressed so that all pedal travel is used before the transmission internals stop turning. I was reading that up to '79 the step height was .018" - .020". Has anyone run into this same problem?

I've never had a step on a Fiat flywheel.

I've always heard .020" (0.5mm), but could not find the spec in the shop manual.

Looks like the flywheel is going back to the shop while the transmission is being changed out. I also could not find the spec. for the clutch disk thickness listed anywhere.

Depending on how much material was removed, you may want to have them check balance, as well.

Taking the flywheel step down to .019" and having the balance checked. My rebuilt transmission arrived Friday and I will hope to have everything back together and on the road next weekend.
