I noticed that the aux shaft pulley on my '80 Spider 2000 is worn, and plastic, so I decided to replace it. I couldn't find a new one at my fav Fiat parts vendors so I started scrounging. I found that the cam pulley on an X1/9 is the same size, but it has a smaller diameter bolt hole. I have a good supply of good used X1/9 cam pulleys so figured that I could simply drill out the hole and use one of those.
As best as I can measure there are slight differences in the two pulleys in terms of where the teeth are positioned relative to the shaft, but it's close. I've cut the fuel pump eccentric off of the shaft so I'm not worried about orienting the aux shaft just right (but I did try and line the X1/9 cam pulley up with the Spider aux pulley, and mark it). Can anyone tell me if I will have any issues using the X1/9 cam pulley due to the very slight differences (other than the bolt hole being too small)? Has anyone else had experience doing this swap?

Re: Aux shaft pulley replacement?
The aux shaft pulley is the same as one of the cam pulleys, can't remember if it's inlet or exhaust. They're not hard to come by, why bother stuffing around.

Re: Aux shaft pulley replacement?
Hello Mick,
Drilling a hole in the X1/9 cam pulley isn't difficult, and it fits onto the aux shaft. I think I measured about a .050" difference in "backspacing", with the X1/9 cam pulley having a wider belt tooth, extending around .050" closer to the block. I've got plenty of X1/9 cam pulleys, but no spare DOHC cam (or aux) pulleys around.
It seems as if there have been few folks who have given this a try. I'll report back on how it works out - FWIW.
