Manual fuel pump differences

Vicks auto sells a manual fuel pump for an earlier spider which also works for cars up to about 78. Auto Ricambi sells one for the early spider up to about 72 and a different one for the later spider. What's the difference between the later and earlier ones, can Vicks be used on a 72. And how do you know which spacer to use. Thanks
