This Doesn't Sound Good
So I painted the cam covers, intake plenum, radiator and timing belt cover and put them back on. I started the car, everything seemed OK. Filled the radiator while it was running. It was running a little hot and I figured I still had an air pocket somewhere. Thought I would drive it around the block anyway. About 1/2 mile from home. while accelerating slightly it started knocking. The temp gauge also went from about 1 o'clock to about 10 o'clock at the same time. Here is a video of the car.

Notice the sounds gets better and then worse again. Did I drop something in a cam tower? Later tonight I plan on removing the cam covers. Other ideas? Thanks!

Re: This Doesn't Sound Good
Can you isolate it with a mechanic's stethoscope?
Maybe Aux shaft pulley slipped and it is tapping.

Sounds so so like misaligned aux shaft but the timing belt was not removed. Try removing tb cover and test again. Rotor hitting distr. cap?
What are the odds you dropped a socket inside the cam covers?

The 2 bolt on the top bolt on the T. Maybe the one below. But you have 2 metal plates behind the cam pulley.

Re: This Doesn't Sound Good
I messed with the timing belt cover and the back plate tonight and it didn't seem to make any difference. I removed the cam covers, but didn't see anything unusual. any other ideas?

lets go back to the stethoscope idea and isolate where it is coming from ... even a wooden dowel will work ... please be careful

I'm pretty sure the sound is coming from cam tower in the intake side. I removed the cover, but didn't see anything.81SPIDERMATT wrote:lets go back to the stethoscope idea and isolate where it is coming from ... even a wooden dowel will work ... please be careful

Re: This Doesn't Sound Good
Being on the intake side, I am going with the Aux shaft. May have slipped. Sound is probably just projecting upwards to the Cam Box.

On that side, the backplate is in 2 pieces and attach with a bolt. What am I looking for with the aux shaft?
Remove the cover, install back the T and start the engine without the cover.
