Bed liner for floorpans?

Post by TFling »

I purchased a 1975 (Pagoda yellow!) spider on Friday and drove it 50 miles home, it is a bit of a barn find that I am looking for ideas on - I am thinking of doing a more “bare” interior.

I have pulled the carpets and mats, scraped up the tar that coats the pans and am in the process of sanding to bare metal. My plan is then to use Evapo-Rust, and then either POR-15 or truck bed liner.

Has anyone here used bed liner for the floors?
I have a fair amount of experience using it, and was thinking if I decide to run without carpets that this would be a durable solution

Thanks in advance!

I see no reason why this would not work, but you'd be surprised how much heat comes off the transmission tunnel, even with insulation and carpet. The 1975 model does not have cowl vents like the earlier cars. It may get a bit toasty in there.

I am in the same process. I made the decision to use an acrylic black paint and then will have 2 layers of sound proofing (sheets first) and then a roll of insulation above that. I see no reason not to use the bed liner. Just make sure it adheres to the metal well. I used POR-15 in other places on my car.

I used spray on bedliner, but started rust free. It is tough as nails, and completely seals everything. No water will intrude past it, just like in a truck bed. And it won't get chipped under the insulation and carpet.

At SEMA I saw a product called Lizard Skin that acted as a heat barrier and sound dampener, pretty decent reviews and is a do it yourself application.
