Hello, As some of you know my Pesto (70 Spider) has been sidelined for a while during a lengthy engine rebuild. Tonight I finaly got the nerve to fire him up, it went pretty well; squeaking belts, took a bit to get the distributor set and carb tuned in enough to hold an idle, plenty of smoke early on but after revving from 2k to 4k several times it all went away. No oil leaks as of yet, water temp never went past 190, seems to have a bit of a miss but I will have a friend time it next time I fire him up.
My only concern at this time is the oil pressure is not where it use to be, I put in a nos oil pump from Midwest-Bayless during the rebuild. The pressure was only around 20lbs (a little less than a quarter on the gauge) at idle and to about 45lbs at 4k rpms. I primed the motor before firing him up and got good oil in the cam towers. The old oil pressure was 35lbs at idle and 55lbs when normal driving. Is this a bit low? Do I need to be worried?
At any rate it is awesome to hear him fire up. Any advice on breaking him in would be welcomed. Have a great day.

Do you remember if you rotated the auxiliary shaft gear while tightening the bolts on the oil pump?

I assembled the bottom end first. That is; I put the crank, then the pistons and next was the oil pump. After which I put the oil pan on then moved to the top end. I put the aux shaft in then the head and cam towers.
