I am hoping you all can help me analyze this issue!!
I have a 78 carburetored model but I added an electric fuel pump several years go.
Replaced the fuel tank recently. Installation went great. Blew air through the gas line to make sure it was clear. Car ran great and no issues. Then I went to put gas in the car. (first time since I replaced the tank.) When I screwed of the gas cap, gas erupted out of the opening (not good or normal!!). Put gas in the car. started it up and drove for 30 feet. Then it died. Got it started and it ran ever so slightly without my foot on the gas pedal. As soon as I tried to apply gas it would stall. A bit later, I couldn't even get minimal running. Nothing. Could not start it again and I had it towed.
Any ideas? and thanks for reading this.

Re: 78 Fuel issue
Try to start car with gas cap off.
I bet your gas tank vent is shot! Happen to me first time I filled up my car. Ran great to gas station, then couldn’t get it off the lot.
