clutch helper spring

Post by BammBamm »

My clutch pedal doesnt want to return fully out. The pedal move fine with no clutch cable or helper spring. The clutch cable, clutch, clutch lever and lever return spring are all new. The clutch pedal helper spring seems to just apply friction to the pedal but doesnt help it go down or up until at the end of the stroke. So the clutch pedal doesn't rise up the last 25% of the throw. is the spring bad or the return spring hook bent? i disassembled the pedal and greased them to make sure there was no bind in the pedal. When neither clutch cable or the helper spring is attached the pedal moves easily. I was think of just removing the helper spring. Please advise.

If its not returning and working correctly then you will wear out the fingers on the pressure plate and or the throw-out bearing prematurely. The clutch cable might be binding and may need to have the fork in the clutch pedal widened so that the clutch cable sits properly in it. Mine was acting funny since I got the car and eventually broke the pedal end of the clutch cable off. Giving the slot in the clutch pedal fork a few strokes (3 or 4 moderate strokes) with a file gave it the required clearance to work without binding the cable end.

Even without the clutch cable attached the pedal just stay in position until you get near full compressed ot extended. i have removed the helper spring and s connector and it seems to work fine now. is the helper spring stretched? It is a major bitch to install.
