Meadow Brook

Post by kristoj »

I spent the day today up in Detroit at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance. What a wonderful day trip, if not a loooong one (four hour drive EACH way). Lots of pretty sleek Italian iron (or aluminum as the case may be). No Fiats on display this year. However, several cars from the Fiat family including an Alfa Romeo concept car (Pininfarina B.A.T. 11), a Lancia B-20 and too many Ferraris to list. If you are interested, you can see all the pictures I took here: http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk22 ... 8/?start=0.

Nice job John,
Pictures were a good representation of the event. Took me 20 minutes to get home. 8)
Added a few interesting ones to yours.

A car so bright that the camera dimmed the pic just to take it. WOW!

Didn't realize anyone else was going. Should have posted BEFORE the event and we could have met up at some point. Nice pix. The thing about events like this is that I only take pictures of the stuff I like, so they aren't really representative of the overall event. For example, there were a lot of GM Corvette concept cars from the '50s and '60s, but I'm not really into Corvettes. Where was the 300SL Gullwing from Dream Car Garage? I looked all over for it and never found it. Also, I believe that is Bob Lutz in your picture, not Robert Eaton.

John,
I did post about going 2 weeks ago. Titled "What I'm doing on August 3rd". Oh well!

My bad about Lutz, I dont know why I said Eaton (that Jerk) living down in Florida. I asked Lutz for a pic (thank god I got his name right on Sunday) and he said OK. And he took the cigar out of this mouth . I walk over to him and ask, how about you puffin on your cigar and he says "but be quick".

Mikes place and Meadowbrook last weekend, PGA Championship at Oakland Hills this weekend and the Woodward Dream Cruise next weekend. And I wonder why I am falling behind on the work on the Spider.

Wouldnt have it any other way. Wonder what the rest of the country is doing. (Car shows at HotDog stands?) :D

One last one

I know what you mean. We had the Pro Football Hall of Fame events here the same weekend as the NEC World Series of Golf, which was also the same weekend as Meadow Brook. Then there was FFO with the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix the following weekend. Next month I'll be attending the MotoGP race at Indy. It's been a busy (and fun) summer! Who says the rust belt is dying?

Here are the pix my buddy took at Meadow Brook -- his camera is MUCH better than mine. http://mageep.smugmug.com/gallery/5616416_gYQcT#P-1-12

If we had more time and were able to take the scenic route, I would consider taking the Fiat. But as it stands, we are planning on quickly eating up large chunks of Interstate in my Infiniti G-35 coupe.

I'm in hot dog stand HELL. The city I work in has a Dairy Queen car show once a month. I stopped by and hung out a bit while patrolling. I struck up a conversation with a guy abotu euro sports cars. He had a hug einterest in my 128, so I brought it up when I got off work.
I was shocked when all of the macho american muscle car guys gathered around my 128 and loved it. I found it funny as hell when none of them knew what it was.
Most car shows here revolve around the Mustang, Corvette stuff, or the custom ghetto crap.
I did however get invited to bring my 128 to a British only car show. I asked the guy why he would want a Fiat at a Brit show. He said that the car was european, rare and quirky. So it would fit right in. Im thinking about going, just to screw with the MG/Triumph stuffy crowd.

Hell, If I want to see I-cars, I have to go to the Ferarri/lambo /Mas dealers.
