Vent Windows

Post by parottthead »

The vent windows on my 81 spider fall out if they are opened. Is there a particular type of adhesive to use to hold them? Also, the latch is off of the window. Can I use rear view mirrow adhesive on it?

Thanks,

Brian

PS Does anyone else have trouble with the "New Topic" button kicking them to the forum index instead of a new topic screen?

Vent Window Latches

I reattached mine using rear view mirror glue. Still on after a couple of years. It helps to use alcohol to make sure both surfaces are clean & to scratch the glass surface a bit where the round contact is. I also used clamps to hold the latches firmly for a few hours.

yeah, using clamps is essential. I've never been able to get a stupid rear view mirror on, but you can't clamp those! Don't know why your windows are falling out though. that don't sound right!

I looks like the rubber or glue that held them has dried over the years. I think I will use clear silicone in the metal channel. It should hold them.

3-M makes a "weatherstripping cement". This works great for the vent windows. It comes in several colors. I usually use black. Use it sparingly and... don't get it on your hands !! It'll be with you tell you die !! ...J.D.

best to get a box of nitrile gloves and wear them whenever dealing with chemicals, especially the 3M weatherstrip cement

I agree Mark ! With the mirror cement too. Used to be I didn't worry about what some of this stuff would do to me but, with age comes wisdom. ...J.D.
