Aloha everyone,
When I bought this 79 NA, the motor was already rebuilt (and painted Chevy orange to my dismay). PO had deleted most of the smog stuff and put on the Weber 32/34 carb.
I was checking valve clearance due to a slight engine ticking I'm searching for. Cams and clearance are ok, and new oil is flowing freely with each engine turn to get lobes in position. So I didn't find the ticking there, but went ahead and painted the valve covers aluminum and brackets black.
Anyway, I noticed 4 plugged holes, one on the exhaust side of each sparkplug hole. Are these for injectors, or what are they?
Is this a FI head?

Re: Is this a FI head?
Those 4 holes are for the air injection system on some engines (part of the emissions control system, often called the "smog pump"). People often remove the pump and the tubing. I have occasionally seen plugs for these, and I believe the threads are M12 x 1.25 but you should verify rather than trust my often faulty memory. Sometimes certain plugs are hard to find in certain states due to the fact that they are almost always used to bypass emissions systems. HI may not be one of those states.

Yes, those are for the smog controls.
I had a -79 at one time. I removed all the smog gear and plugged the smog holes in the head by placing a round headed copper alloy rivet upside down in the fitting and torqued it down. Never leaked.
