Fuel hose overhaul

So next up is ignition, and then fuel system. I'm going to pull the tank in order to get the last bumper shock out, so I figure it's a good time to replace some parts.

Does anyone have a writeup or list of fuel hoses that should be replaced?

Also, I'd imagine that I'll need to buy a length of hose and cut to size?

Any tips would be great.

other than the filler neck hose, which my feeble mind says is a 90° elbow - difficult to substitute...

nearly all the rest is 5/16" fuel line generally found everywhere. you will seriously need about nine foot of the stuff, and exactly fourteen hose clamps. that should replace all of the factory hose inside the trunk, tank compartment, and to the axle.

then there is steel line up and over the axle to the driver side rocker panel, where it transforms briefly back to hose, then to steel line as it travels through the passenger compartment. This rubber hose at the transition is not included in the above nine foot, nor are these hose clamps included in the fourteen. I would not bother replacing the one way valve, unless you are seriously concerned about fuel leakage during a roll over.

on the engine compartment side of the firewall, you obviously have another plethora of rubber hoses and hose clamps...exact amounts of each depend on your carburetor and the degree of emission equipment evacuation.

Then there is the charcoal canister, and rubber hose connections to the steel lines BACK to the rear axle via the transmission tunnel.

so, depending on how agressively you really wanna pursue this simple project....

Do you think I'd be OK with just the filler neck and engine bay fuel hoses?

I'd suggest replacing the hoses from the tank to the steel lines

OK so checklist:

Filler Neck
Fuel Tank Lines in Trunk
Fuel Tank Lines at Rear Axle
Fuel Lines in Engine Bay (To Injectors, Emission Equipment)

Should I just get 10-12 feet of hosing and a couple dozen hose clamps?

if you have FI, make sure you buy the proper hose and clamps

Could someone who has replaced rubber hoses on an FI spider help me out with what diameter hose and what size hose clamps they used?

I used 5/16" fuel injection hose on my X19 just last week. Less than $2 a ft at Advance Auto.

Will I need to depressurize the fuel system before replacing this stuff?

Is it necessary to drain the tank to replace the fuel lines? I can't imagine it would be.

I just did mine & got a nice gas shower. you'll need a piece of 7/16 from the tank to pump. I also ordered the correct metric stuff for the fuel rail, 5/16 f.i. hose on the rest.

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much. I'd imagine the hoses stay primed even if you depressurize the system? Ah, no worries. I hear gasoline is good for the complexion. ;)

If my engine runs smoothly throughout the rev range (despite a cold idle problem) should I bother with sending my injectors to be cleaned and tested? I have no reason to believe they are clogged.

I figure that I'll have the fuel system apart anyway... but then again, it's not cheap.

You'd be surprised how dirty they can be. And if one of them isn't spraying correctly, you could be running lean in that particular cylinder. I would recommend sending them out to be cleaned and tested. I sent them to Witchhunter Performance. They clean them and bench test them before and after to check for flow and spray pattern and give you a report. They also changed the pintle caps, which were worn and discolored. The whole thing costs less than $100 including postage. I don't have any affiliation with these guys other than they did a great job for me.
