since i 've wrecked some engines before i was wondering if a lancia engine is an option ? i believe its 20° tilted ?
i've heared some contradicting reports on if it would fit or not
There's almost no offering on fiat engines (here in Belgium), at least , not in my budget , on the other hand the lancia engines are plentyful and cheap.Even some lancia volumex engines on sale. According to one of the sellers it would only take a change the oilpan , the waterpomp and in and outlets to make it fit for a fiat (and i guess some other brackets ? )
but earlyer today visiting a Fiat dealer the lancia ones wouldn't fit at all
Anyone done the conversion already ? any ideas, suggestions, advice, Help and info would be appreciated
would lancia engine fit ?

Re: would lancia engine fit ?
i bet i getta big correction here, so at least you will git an answer.
my limited knowledge of the difference between the lancia and fiat version of the engine are the tilt, which is compensated for in the downdraft carbs with the intake manifold angles. if you pop a lancia engine in your spider with the standard engine mounts you will need to change to a fiat intake manifold....which is a no biggie...but you won't be able to use that stock lancia intake manifold.

Re: would lancia engine fit ?
oil pan, intake manifold;neither a big problem to change. Some Lancia blocks have an extra casting on the right side of the block for a mount. That could be a problem if your alternator is on the right side
Re: would lancia engine fit ?
You also need to use the Fiat Camboxes, the lancia cambox oil drain is different than the fiat's cambox.

Re: would lancia engine fit ?
Well i need the camboxes of the fiat anyway , seems like only parts i can use from the lancia are the motorblock , and cylinderhead , al the rest should be set over
Just worry about the extra casting , not sure what is the right side of the car is that driver side of the engine ?
(always had trouble with right and left , on a car ) can someone how to look at the car if you say right or left is this standing in front of the car and looking to the back or is this seen from sitting behind the steering wheel , someone clear this up for me for once and for all , pls
back to conversion would you recomment me doing that , or is it something more for a specialist like mark etc ?
As long if its just bolt on i want to risk it but anything more difficult like that and i better stay off i think

Re: would lancia engine fit ?
you should view the sides of the car as if you are sitting in it; on a lhd car the left side is the drivers' side

Re: would lancia engine fit ?
I am not real familiar with these cars. They weren't that plentyful here. The 2 Fiat dealers I worked for didn't handle Lancia. I just saw and admired the HPE at Thor Imports in Ontario, Ca. when I was buying a Volvo Amazon from them used. I also had a few pass through for repairs in the last Fiat shop I worked in in 1979. I would think the front engine cars would fit. I also just found out about the supercharger for these engines. I've never seen one on our side of the pond but that sure would be a neat setup for my Spider. . ...J.D.

Well its the exact same supersharger as used on the fiat 124 volumex
there's a fiat volumex for sale in the Netherlands - its roufly 20.000$ (15.000€)
still better than the spider selling for 23.000 in another post
http://www.marktplaats.nl/index.php?url ... searchmode
And this guy also in the netherlands , is letting 2 lancias go one of them a volumex , willing to part with the negine alone for +-1500€ (2000$)
http://www.speurders.nl/advertenties/be ... 7229).html
and theres anotherone letting a hpe volumex go for 3500€ 4500$ for a complete restored car
http://www.speurders.nl/advertenties/la ... 0475).html
take your pick
