2000 FI to carb conversion

Post by nicktheviking »

I haven't been able to dig up very much information on this topic, so I was hoping that someone on here has done the conversion.

What all is required? Obviously a carb intake manifold, a carb (or carbs), adjustment to throttle, and a mechanical fuel pump?

Is it possible to make a conversion CA smog legal? Is the older smog equipment needed?

Ah, kinda figured.

I guess if I want a performance bump, it's forced induction.

IL also requires smog, but they are not as strict as CA. You may be able to sneek it past them, alot easier if you have a 1980. Manifold, carb, accelerator linkage, accelerator cable, possibly a new accelerator pedal depending on your year, and a few rubber hoses should get you going.

Don't think you would get any better performance changing to carbs from the F.I. You would be better off getting a digital stand alone fuel management system to be able to tune the car and utilize easy upgrades to the F.I system. Just getting a good port and polish on the intake and head can get you up to 20hp with just that done on a well tuned F.I head. I'm talking about a vw 8v motor but it would still apply as the F.I system is very close to the same as vw used in the 70's and 80's.
