Well, I got the transmission out of my parts car. It shifted through the gears fine (without the engine running of course), except that it was a little difficult to get into reverse. Should this worry me that reverse will give me trouble after it is cleaned and installed in a running car? It has been about ten years since it was last run.
Also, what do I need to do to the transmission before installing it? Obviously, drain and replace the fluid. Should I try and clean or lightly pressure wash the inside, or pour some fluid in it and slosh it around a bit to remove any debris that may be inside from sitting so long?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Preparing to Install Used Transmission
Re: Preparing to Install Used Transmission
Marks right, those transmissions just need to be drained and filled. Make sure that you pushing down on the shifter to get into reverse. You only get into reverse when the car is stopped, so what you feel now is what you will feel later.
Do the Bernie Cow Tip with the new oil in to lube up the back 5th/reverse gear to see if the shifting is better. After sitting that long, the oil can slowly dry up on the rings and stick a little.
