Carburetor Rebuild Questions

Post by tglancy »

1975 FIAT 124 Spider 1800 all stock except no EGR, Air pump, Vapor canister, and unused ports capped. The engine has lots of power and was responsive before layup for the winter.

After receiving a great deal of technical information from people on this form I have taken two 32 ADFA carbs each with some broken parts and build one good one. All the normal wear parts have been replaced or are almost new. Every spec has been checked using the FIAT student work book that Matt supplied me with (Great Detail).

The motor runs better than it ever has before (cannot take out for a test drive yet, no seats). The Idle screws are in about the correct positions after following the tuning guides on the FIAT forums. Two minor concerns with the rebuild.

Both carbs had the float setting at about 4 mm in the closed position while the spec is for 7 mm. Can anyone confirm that 7 mm is correct?

If I open the throttle in a one to two second sweep there is no hesitation. If I snap it open (very fast) there is very slight hesitation. Is this normal/acceptable or am I being too picky?

As a potentially part of the above issue the “spray” from the accelerator pump is more of a weak stream of fuel. Should it be a strong stream or a spray?

Any insight would be useful.
