Runs Poorly with a Full Tank

Post by jfrawley »

My 1982 Spider seems to run OK with less than 3/4 of a tank of gas. If i fill it up, it misses like crazy and won't idle. Once the fuel level drops, it runs OK again. Thoughts?

It sounds like somehow some of the emission hoses are hooked up incorrectly. I would remove the hose to the vapor canister at the carb ( or intake ) plug the port and try it. Its just that I have seen other cars hooked up wrong, and actually pulled in gas from the wrong set-up. I could be wrong too!

You might try leaving to cap loose, and see if that helps.

Tried that to no avail. The two things seem totally unrelated to me. I can't figure out why a full tank would cause it to run poorly, but this is the second time in a row it's happened. The first time i just thought it was a one time thing, but now, seems like a pattern to me.
