In the center section of the dash On the top there is a small thumb dial,
I do not know it's function. does anyone ? I would be curious and thankful to find out.

That is to reset the trip odometer to 000. Useful when trying to figure out the gas mileage...

I think you're talking about the dial that controls the brightness of the dash lights.

Gentlemen: Thank-you for the reply and the attempt.
But that is not it. My trip odometer is centered inbetween the Tach, & Spedo. The control knob that adjusts dash light brightness, is in the center section, but below this control. It sits almost flush and rotates left to right rather clockwise or counter clockwise.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture would you?

Is it the switch which controls the speed of the wiper blades?

Thanks again Jon, but I haven't yet joined the digital camera age , however my son has. Iwill borrow it and attempt to upload a picture dial in question. It may take a few days Gary.

Has to be the control for the fiber optic - the lights in the heater controls and the hazard switch.

Mario's got it.. the rotory dial affects the guage cluster. The thumb switch controls the lights that illuminate the fan control and heater levers. And as Mario mentioned.. it is only ONE lamp with a harness of fibreoptic cables. Pretty advanced, no?

Gary,

If it is that hard to tell what the gauge dimmer rheostat is designed to do, you might wanna consider Brown Wire Surgery.

Sounds like you cannot see the difference when this switch is rotated fully in each direction. Welcome to poorly designed and oft failing Italian wiring.

I remember which switch it is now. Mario jogged my memory so that it's up and working again.

He's right on, it is the fiber optic light dimmer. Big switch for the actual effect it has! Best played with in the dark, you'll see the effects, barely.
