Can I put my Two Liter in a Sport Coupe?

Post by thechadzone »

I've found an irresistible deal on a comparatively less rusty 124CC Sport Coupe from 1973 (my birth year, how nice). I'd like to put my two liter from my '69 AS Spider into it, but I've heard that the two liter block is something like 18mm taller than the 1.8 block. It also has the 1.8 head upgrade, and dual IDFs.

Is it gonna fit under the hood of the Sport Coupe without modification? I hope so, cause the Sport Coups are bitchin', and I've wanted a hot one for a long time. The Coupe comes with a complete 1.8 motor (already out) that I'm considering putting into the Spider.

I'll have the Coupe in two weeks, after a 500 mile round trip. "Bring a trailer"...

Thanks as always for the wisdom from the board...

Yes.

You may wish to use the 2000 spider crossmember and the solid engine mounts to reduce motion.

I just have installed one in my BC, using a 2.oL crossmember to provide clearance beyween the hood and motor. I had another 2.0L in the car, with the original crossmember and the distributor and carb air box were just touching enough to produce some vibration. Your cc hood is different. I have seen CC's with 2.0L motors in them, and I think the distiirbutor was just touching. What happens on the intake side will depend on what kind of carb(s) and air cleaner box you are runhning. The 2.0L crossmember fixes those issues.

Thanks to each of you. Straight forward information from those who know, and/or have been there before. I love that about this board. That's why it's pleased me so much when I've been in a position to offer up something useful...
